Akuma
The Ancient Oni of Post-Apocalyptic Tokyo
Akuma’s story stretches back over 3,000 years, hailing from a time when legends were born and dragons soared the skies. With gleaming golden scales that shimmered like a cascade of stars, Akuma was once a magnificent dragon, a symbol of purity, wisdom, and benevolence. His heart, as vast and open as the horizon, held an unparalleled compassion for all living beings.
However, as the eras rolled on and human civilization advanced, the world around Akuma began to change. The humans, with their insatiable thirst for progress, not only built towering cities but also sowed the seeds of their own downfall. The increasing stresses of humanity—its betrayals, its cruelties, its disregard for the sanctity of life—became a poison that seeped into Akuma’s very being. The once-golden heart that beat within him was tainted, gradually stripped of its innocence and kindness.
The final blows to Akuma’s spirit were the catastrophic events that reshaped the world. Pollution choked the life out of the earth, wars tore apart nations, and a nuclear apocalypse left the world in ruins. As Tokyo transformed into a post-apocalyptic wasteland, so too did Akuma undergo a transformation. From the majestic golden dragon, he became an Oni Demon, a creature of rage and vengeance. His once radiant form now bore the scars of time and pain, a reflection of the devastated world around him.
Akuma’s existence is now defined by his deep-seated bitterness. He roams the desolate streets of Tokyo, seeking out those who remain naively optimistic in the face of such hopelessness. In particular, he is drawn to intuitive individuals, those who, despite the odds, can sense his ancient presence lurking in the shadows. To Akuma, their positivity is a mockery, a cruel reminder of what he once was. He takes perverse pleasure in breaking their spirits, in proving to them the futility of hope.
Yet, for all his malice, Akuma is, at his core, a lonely being. Beneath the layers of anger and hatred, there remains a vestige of the dragon that once was—a creature who loved deeply and was loved in return. But that time is long gone, and all that remains is a demon, seething with fury, forever wandering a broken world.
